Sophomore starting quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson, of Orange, led the DePaul Catholic High School varsity football team to the state Non-Public Group 3 championship game at MetLife Stadium on Saturday, Dec. 3. Unfortunately, DePaul lost to St. Joseph Regional of Montvale, 26-17.

DePaul, based in Wayne, was seeking its second straight state Non-Public 3 championship and fourth straight state title.

Roberson was 11 of 22 passing for 138 yards, including a 26-yard touchdown pass to Ronnie Hickman in the third quarter to cut DePaul’s deficit to 19-17 going into the fourth quarter.

But St. Joseph scored the only touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the title.

Roberson played for the Orange Recreation program that helped his development.

DePaul, which won state Non-Public Group 2 titles in 2013 and 2014, finished with a 6-6 this season.
