MAPLEWOOD – Columbia High School seniors Jordan Fields and Samantha Viqueira signed their National Letter of Intent to continue their athletic careers on the Division 1 collegiate level.
Fields will continue her track and field career at the University of Pittsburgh. Viqueira will continue her fencing career at the University of Notre Dame.
Both student-athletes signed their National Letter of Intent during National Signing Day on Wednesday, Nov. 11.
Fields, a state Group 4 triple jump champion, is one of the top recruits nationally in track and field. Jordan was recruited in basketball and track by dozens of colleges and decided to pursue track and field. Fields will forgo playing for the CHS girls’ basketball team this winter in favor of competing for the CHS indoor track team.
Fields finished her varsity basketball career as a three-year starting point guard with more than 800 points and tied the school’s record for three-point shots made.
Viqueira, a foilist, last season lost just once in helping to lead the CHS girls’ fencing team to the prestigious Santelli Tournament title as well as the state tournament championship for the second year in a row. She went undefeated against 19 of the top fencers in the state to lead the CHS girls’ team to the state foil squad championship.
