Columbia HS baseball players receive All-SEC and All-Area accolades

MAPLEWOOD – The Columbia High School varsity baseball team enjoyed another successful season with a 17-10 overall, clinching a share of the Super Essex Conference-Liberty Division title with Verona. CHS and Verona each finished 13-3 in the division. It marked the second straight season that the Cougars won the SEC-Liberty Division championship. In 2015, the Cougars won the division outright.

This season, the Cougars boasted several players who have earned All-SEC-Liberty Division and Worrall Media All-Area honors.

They include:

All-SEC-Liberty

First Team: Pete Nolet, Eliot Dix, Quinn Krais, and Christian Pierre.

Second Team: Danny Boehmer and Luke Jackson.

Honorable Mention: Sam Berkley and Ryan Davis.

Nolet, Dix, Krais, Pierre, Boehmer and Jackson made First Team; and Berkley, Davis and Reid Evans made Second Team on the All-Area.

Krais, a senior catcher, was solid at the plate this season, boasting a  .434 batting average (36-for-83) with nine doubles, two triples, 25 RBI and 12 walks. He also had a .510 on-base average and .590 slugging average.

Pierre, a sophomore center fielder, had 31 hits for a .397 batting average, including five doubles, four triples, and home run. He also had 16 RBI, 16 walks, a .525 on-base average and .603 slugging average.

Davis, a senior designated hitter, batted .352 with 19 hits, 13 RBI and 16 walks. He had a .514 on-base average and .481 slugging average.

Jackson, a sophomore third baseman, had a .338 batting average with 26 hits, including seven doubles, one triple, 25 RBI, 22 runs and 18 walks.

Dix, a shortstop, had a strong freshman season in which he batted .326 with 28 hits, including six doubles, one home run, 28 RBI, 18 runs and 12 walks.

Evans, a junior second baseman, batted .275 with 22 hits, including seven doubles, two homers, 23 RBI, 10 runs and four walks.

The Cougars’ pitching was led by Nolet, Boehmer, Berkley and Michael Roseman.

Nolet, a junior, had a 6-1 record with a 2.01 earned run average. In 52 ⅓ innings, Nolet struck out 60 and allowed 51 hits and 19 walks.

Boehmer, also a junior, went 3-4 but had an impressive 1.96 ERA. Boehmer struck out 43 and allowed 32 hits and 19 walks in 35 ⅔ innings.

Berkley, a senior, was 2-0 with a 1.62 ERA. In 26 innings, Berkley allowed 23 hits and 10 walks, striking out 32. He also had two saves.

Roseman, a sophomore, also a contributor on the mound for the Cougars, compiling a 3-1 record.

Though they will miss Krais, Davis and Berkley, the Cougars return a good core for next season, led by Pierre, Dix and Jackson, along with Nolet, Boehmer and Roseman on the mound.
