MAPLEWOOD/SOUTH ORANGE — Four Columbia High School baseball players signed letters of intent with their respective colleges on Wednesday, Nov. 10.

The following are the student-athletes and their college choices:

  • Akshay Heda, Pacific Lutheran University.
  • Dylan Sullivan, Utica College.
  • Matthew Motiwalla, Brandeis University.
  • Luke Nomura, Fairfield University.

CHS head coach Ryan Muirhead praised the four players.

Akshay Heda and Matt Motiwalla are both corner infielders who swing from the left side of the plate, Muirhead noted.

“Heda spent most of his time at 3B or DH-ing last year while Matt played a majority of the innings at 1B,” Muirhead stated. “Both players hit in the middle of the lineup last year and we hope will be big producers this spring.”

Sullivan’s hard work paid dividends, Muirhead noted.

“Dylan Sullivan really shined down the stretch as an up-and-coming pitcher in the program,” Muirhead stated “He put in a TON of work to not only develop his skillset but also physically to develop his body and it certainly paid off as he put together some really great outings this past spring and we’re looking forward to more in 2022.”
Muirhead also is excited about Nomura next spring.
“Luke Nomura is one of our two returning captains from last year,” he stated. “He’s our starting short stop and will likely hit in the heart of our lineup. He’s a terrific all around player, has a great head on his shoulders and we’re expecting a big season out of him this spring.”
