Columbia HS baseball team defeats Verona in season opener

MAPLEWOOD/SOUTH ORANGE – The Columbia High School varsity baseball team rallied to beat Verona, 4-2, in the season opener Friday, April 1, at Underhill Field.

Luke Jackson went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run and Daniel Cotler and Chistian Pierre each went 1-for-3 with a stolen base to lead the Cougars.

Verona scored a run in the top of the first and a run in the top of the third for a 2-0 lead. CHS scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie it 2-2 and scored two in the fifth.

Pete Nolet pitched a complete game five-hitter with four strikeouts and two walks.
