MAPLEWOOD – The Columbia High School varsity baseball team finished a successful season.
The ninth-seeded Cougars lost at top-seeded Watchung Hills, 9-1, in the quarterfinals of the state North Jersey Section 2, Group 4 tournament to move to a 16-10 record.
The Cougars clinched at least a share of the Super Essex Conference-Liberty Division with a 13-3 record. West Orange and Verona are tied for second at 12-3. West Orange will visit Verona on June 1. The winner will share the divisional title with Columbia. It marks the second straight year that the Cougars won the SEC-Liberty Division title.
