Columbia HS baseball team to host Montclair Kimberley Academy in GNT

MAPLEWOOD and SOUTH ORANGE – The Columbia High School varsity baseball team, seeded fifth, will host 12th-seeded Montclair Kimberley Academy in the first round of the Greater Newark Tournament on Saturday, May 7, at 2:30 p.m.

The Cougars lost to Bergen Catholic, 9-0, in a non-conference game at Breslin Stadium in Lyndhurst on Saturday, April 30. Later that night, the Cougars hosted its third annual night game at Cameron Field, but lost to Montclair, 2-1, in a Super Essex Conference non-divisional game to move to an 8-5 record. The Cougars had a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Quinn Krais scored on an RBI by Luke Jackson, who went 1-for-2. Montclair scored one run in the fifth and one in the sixth.  Eliot Dix went 1-for-2 with a walk. CHS moved to an 8-5 record.

Reid Evans went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI and Christian Pierre went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored in the 6-4 win over Newark East Side on Monday,May 2, at the Ironbound Rec Center in Newark in a SEC-Liberty Division game.

The Cougars scored twice in the top of the seventh to break a 4-4 tie.

Dix went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and Luke Jackson scored two runs. Spencer Rubino-Finn allowed one run on three hits and two walks, striking out two in two innings of relief, to earn the win. The Cougars improved to a 9-5 overall record and are in first place in the SEC-Liberty Division with a 9-1 divisional record.
