Columbia HS boys’ basketball team has good ECT run

MAPLEWOOD, NJ – The Columbia High School boys’ varsity basketball team, seeded 11th, had a good run in the Essex County Tournament.

Nasheim Harte had 23 points, with six three-pointers, and Zayon Marsh had 11 points and five rebounds to lead the Cougars to a 70-57 win over No. 23 seed North Star Academy in the preliminary third round on Feb. 9 at home. Breizh Askew had 10 points; Russell Ayala had eight points, five assists and five steals and Darius Plummer scored six points.

Columbia fell at No. 6 seed Newark Central, 52-48, Feb. 10, in the first round. Harte had 15 points and 10 rebounds; Askew netted 14 points; Ayala scored eight points and Marsh had five points and four rebounds. Columbia moved to a 7-14 record.

The Cougars, seeded 16th, will visit No. 1 seed Newark East Side in the first round of the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2, Group 4 state tournament on Feb. 27.
