Columbia HS boys’ lacrosse team upsets Livingston in ECT

MAPLEWOOD and SOUTH ORANGE – Will O’Mara had two goals and one assist and Cameron Herbert and Brian Young each had one goal and one assist to lead the ninth-seeded Columbia High School boys’ varsity lacrosse team to a 5-3 win over eighth-seeded Livingston in the first round of the Essex County Tournament on April 30 in Livingston.

Dion Bryan had one goal and Will Maloney made 15 saves for the Cougars, who will visit top-seeded and three-time defending champion Seton Hall Prep in the quarterfinals on May 3.

Bryan, Orterro Felton, Nile Garcia and Herbert each had one goal and Young added one assist in the 8-4 loss at Millburn on May 2. CHS moved to a 6-9 record.

In earlier action, Garcia had three goals and Bryan and Ben Majtyka each had two goals in the 12-5 home win over Nutley on April 25. Thaddeus Sabin had one goal and two assists; Felton, Leejer Henry and Spencer White each had a goal; and O’Mara had two assists. Maloney made 11 saves.

CHS lost to Madison, 10-3, April 27. Garcia had two goals and Young had one goal and one assist.
