MAPLEWOOD, NJ – Joe Dente, a senior forward, scored the game-winning goal late in the second overtime to lift the Columbia High School varsity boys’ soccer team to a 2-1 win over Newark East Side on Monday, Sept. 25, at CHS Ritzer Field in a Super Essex Conference non-division game.
Senior midfielder Avery Coreschi scored the other CHS goal in the 52nd minute off a long pass from junior goalie Sam Maidenberg. CHS improved to 4-3. Maidenberg posted 15 saves. East Side moved to 3-2-1.
In the previous game, the Cougars lost to Caldwell, 2-0, Saturday, Sept. 23, at Ritzer Field in a SEC-Liberty Division game.
