MAPLEWOOD, NJ – The fourth-seeded Columbia High School boys’ varsity tennis team defeated No. 13 seed Watchung Hills in the first round of the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2, Group 4 state tournament. Adam Kaplan won 6-1, 6-3 at second singles; Kevin Tamayo won 6-0, 6-1 at third singles and Seth Gordon and Jackson Wagner won 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 at first doubles.
The Cougars were scheduled to host No. 5 seed Ridge in the quarterfinals on May 15. The winner will advance to the semifinals on May 17 against the winner of No. 1 seed Westfield and No. 9 seed Piscataway. The final is May 21.
