Columbia HS girls’ track 4×100 relay shines in Large School final at Penn Relays

MAPLEWOOD and SOUTH ORANGE – The Columbia High School girls’ track and field 4×100-meter relay team, consisting of sophomore Ciara French, freshman Lillian Williams, junior Dahria Lewis and senior Cheyenne Trigg, is having a great showing at the 122nd Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa.

On the first day of the meet, April 28, the team clocked 48.55 to finish second in its heat, qualifying for both the Large School final and Tri-State Final.

In the Large School final, April 29, the team finished eighth in 49.36.

On Saturday, April 30, the final day of the meet, the team took seventh in the Tri-State final in 48.63.

Trigg will continue her track and field career at Syracuse University.

The CHS boys’ 4×400-meter relay team finished last among the 11 teams in its heat in 3:40.22 on the final day.  The team consisted of Venchardson Vital, Jeremiah Richardson, Robert Howell and Malcolm Moore.

CHS senior Jordan Fields took eighth in the girls’ triple jump with a leap of 37 feet, 10 1/2 inches on the first day. Fields will continue her track and field career at the University of Pittsburgh.

CHS grad soars at Penn Relays

University of Maryland’s Kayla Richardson, a 2014 Columbia High School graduate, won the college’s women’s long jump at the Penn Relays with a leap of 19 feet, 6 ¼ inches on April 29.
