Columbia HS girls’ basketball team wins three in a row to improve to 6-6

MAPLEWOOD, NJ – The Columbia High School girls’ varsity basketball team continued its remarkable turnaround.

The Cougars won three straight games, defeating Newark Collegiate Academy, Montclair Kimberley Academy, and Montclair improve to a 6-6 overall record. Columbia started off 0-4 and 1-5 this season.

Senior Kayla Anderson scored 18 points and had four rebounds to lead the Columbia High School girls’ varsity basketball team to a 46-43 win over Newark Collegiate Academy on Jan. 23.

Senior Hernann Angerville had two points and six rebounds; senior Briaille Carthens had four points, three rebounds, three assists and four steals and sophomore Maia Little posted four points and four rebounds.

Anderson had 10 points and Little had 10 points in the 50-25 win at MKA on Jan. 25. Sage Cleghorn,a junior, had seven points; Angerville and sophomore Gia Gillens each had five points; Carthens, junior Vida Poyner, and freshman Provilon-Louis each had four points.

Angerville had 10 points, 17 rebounds and three steals; and Anderson and Cleghorn each had nine points in the 44-28 win at Montclair on Saturday, Jan. 27. Carthens posted seven points and three assists and Little scored four points.
