Columbia HS girls’ basketball team posts good ECT run

MAPLEWOOD, NJ – The Columbia High School girls’ indoor track and field team had a great showing at the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2, Group 4 state Championships on Feb. 9 at the Bennett Center in Toms River.

The Cougars finished in second place in the girls’ team standings with 43 points, behind first-place Ridge with 60 points.

Briana Reckling won the 400-meter dash in 58.89. Catherine Jordan took second in the high jump at 4 feet-10 inches and fifth in the 800-meter run in 2:21.42. The 4×400-meter relay team took third in 4:1042.

Ayanna Henry was third in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.95. Megan Mosteiro took third in the pole vault at 9-6. Dylan Herbert was fourth in the high jump at 4-10.

Lillian Williams was sixth in the 55-meter dash in 7.52.

On the boys’ side, David Ives was second in the 3,200-meter run in 9:44.22 and Callum Howald was second in the pole vault at 13-0 for the Cougars’ points in the meets.

The top six finishers in each event qualified for the NJSIAA Group 4 state Championships on Feb. 17 at the Bennett Center.
