UPDATE: Columbia HS girls’ basketball team posts wins

MAPLEWOOD – Dominique Rayam had 14 points and fellow senior Shadekay Haughon had eight points to lead the Columbia High School girls’ varsity basketball team to a 38-31 win over Caldwell on Jan. 26 at South Orange Middle School.

Sophomore Kayla Anderson and junior Courtney Miller each had six points; and senior Melissa Etienne and senior Jasmine West each had two points for the Cougars, who outscored Caldwell, 14-10, in the third quarter to extend their lead to 30-20.

Rayam had 21 points and Anderson had six in a 41-31 comeback win at Mount Saint Dominic Academy on Jan. 28 in Caldwell. The Cougars overcame a 17-16 halftime deficit, outscoring MSDA, 25-14, in the second half.

CHS fell at Morris Catholic, 55-20, Jan. 30, to move to a 5-10 record.

The Cougars, seeded 12th, will host either No. 21 seed Verona or No. 24 seed Glen Ridge on or by Feb. 11 in the second preliminary round of the 42nd Essex County Tournament. Defending champion East Orange Campus is the No. 1 seed.
