Columbia HS girls’ basketball team to begin play in Essex County Tournament

MAPLEWOOD – The Columbia High School girls’ varsity basketball team, seeded 12th, will host 21st-seeded Verona in the second preliminary round of the Essex County Tournament on Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m. at South Orange Middle School. The Cougars received a bye in the first preliminary round.

Senior Dominique Rayam had 15 points; Shadekay Haughton had seven; and Kayla Anderson had five in a 45-30 loss at Barringer on Feb. 1 in Newark.

The Cougars fell to West Orange, 54-44, Feb. 2, at South Orange Middle School, and lost at West Essex, 41-27, Feb. 4, in North Caldwell to move to a 5-13 record.
