MAPLEWOOD, NJ – The Columbia High School girls fencing team advanced to the semifinal round of the State Championship when it beat Morris Hills High School on Monday, Feb. 11.

Columbia will face Montclair High School on Wednesday, Feb. 20.

The girls clinched their win against Morris Hills at 14-10, with a comeback win by foil fencer Sara Kasler.

Unfortunately, the CHS boys fencing team fenced valiantly, but lost to Ridge High School on Wednesday, Feb. 13 in the quarterfinals of the State Championship.  It was extremely close, until the very end, when Ridge clinched at 14-11. Notably, the boys foils squad, comprised of freshman Massimo Arana and juniors Nicholas Goguen-Compagnoni, and Jack Woods, only lost two bouts.
