MAPLEWOOD/SOUTH ORANGE – The Columbia High School girls’ fencing team came up short in its bid for a three-peat state team tournament championship.
The sixth-seeded Lady Cougars lost to top-seeded Montgomery, 16-11, in the state team tournament championship on Feb. 24 at Morris Hills High School in Rockaway.
Camille Pham led CHS with a 3-0 showing in foil on the B-strip with a final touch score of 15-3.
Columbia, which finished with an 11-1 record this season, has won 12 state team titles in its history, including back-to-back in 2014 and 2015. Columbia also won the state team title in 2012.
Montgomery won its first state championship.
On Saturday, Feb. 27, CHS senior Marissa Viqueira took second place in girls’ foil at the State Individual Championships at Livingston High School.
