Columbia HS girls’ indoor track and field team finishes second at sectional meet

MAPLEWOOD – The Columbia High School girls’ indoor track and field team finished second overall in the girls’ team standings at the state North Jersey Section 2, Group 4 Championship meet at the Bennett Complex in Toms River on Feb. 12.

The 4×400-meter relay team finished in first place for the Lady Cougars, who had 46 team points., Ridge won the girls’ team title with 84.5 points.

On the boys’ side, the Cougars tied with Plainfield for seventh place overall. Jared Pangallozzi, a junior, won the 3,200-meter run to lead the Cougars.

The top six finishers in each event qualified for the state Group 4 Championship meet at the Bennett Complex on Feb. 19.

CHS girls’ indoor and outdoor track and field head coach and boys’ and girls’ cross-country head coach Lisa Morgan will step down at the end of the indoor season to become the head coach at Bloomfield College.

55-meter dash: Fourth place, senior Cheyenne Trigg, 7.59.

400-meter run: Third place, Trigg, 59.56. Fourth place, sophomore Brianna Reckling, 1:00.86. Sixth place, sophomore Catherine Jordan, 1:01.40.

800-meter run: Second place, Reckling, 2:20.64.

55-meter hurdles: Sixth place, sophomore Ciara French, 9.21.

4×400-meter relay: First place, Trigg, senior Sienna Farrell, Jordan, Reckling, 4:02.63.

High jump: Fourth place, Jordan, 4 feet, 10 inches.

Shot put: Second place, junior Dahria Lewis, 33 feet, 1 ¼ inches.

Boys

800-meter run: Sixth place, senior Donte Rolley, 2:02.75.

3,200-meter run: First place, Pangallozzi, 9:51.21.

4×400-meter relay: Fourth place, junior Venchardson Vital, junior Jeremiah Richardson, senior Martin Battle, Rolley, 3:34.17.

High jump: Fourth place, senior Roody Ovil, 6 feet.
