Columbia HS girls’ indoor track and field team wins Essex County Relays title for 13th straight year

MAPLEWOOD – The Columbia High School girls’ indoor track and field team won the Essex County Relays team title on Sunday, Jan. 3, at the Jersey City Armory. It marked the team’s 13th straight Essex County Relays team title, 10 of which have come under head coach Lisa Morgan, who will step down following the end of the indoor season to become the head coach at Bloomfield College. The Cougars had 52 team points. Montclair was second with 40 points among the 18 scoring teams.

The CHS girls won the following events:

4×200-meter relay (Dahria Lewis, Ciara French, Sienna Farrell, Cheyenne Trigg), 1:48.40.

4×400-meter relay (Trigg, Brianna Reckling, Catherine Jordan, Lewis), 4:10.65.

1,600 sprint medley relay (French, Lewis, Trigg, Reckling), 4:19.45.

The Cougars also took third place in the 4×800 (Trigg, Jordan, Sumaiyah Hill, Reckling) in 10:24.16; and second place in the 4×55 shuttle hurdles (French, Jordan, Emma Cook, Ayanna Henry) in 36.98. In the high jump relay, Jordan tied for first overall with a leap of 4-10, while Cook tied for 15th at 4 feet, 3 inches to combine for fourth place.  In shot put relay, Lewis was fifth overall at 31-5 ¾ and Farrell was 16th at 26-7 ¼ to combine for fourth place.

On the boys’ side, the Cougars finished tied for sixth overall with Seton Hall Prep in the team standings among the 16 scoring teams.

Venchardson Vital, Jonathan Salinardo, Jared Pangallozzi, and Donte Rolley took third place in the 4×800 in 8:32.82. Martin Battle, Jeremiah Richardson, Rolley and Vital took second place in the sprint medley relay in 3:43.10.
