MAPLEWOOD, NJ – The 10th-seeded Columbia High School girls’ varsity soccer team defeated Newark East Side and lost to state-ranked Watchung Hills in the state North Jersey Section 2, Group 4 tournament to finish the season with a solid 9-7-3 record.
Caroline Cerny and Ceci Munoz each had a goal in the 2-0 win at seventh-seeded Newark East Side on Nov. 1 in the first round. Charli Holstein had one assist and Hannah Williams made two saves.
CHS fell at second-seeded Watchung Hills, 4-1, in the quarterfinals on Friday, Nov. 4. Grace Bratter scored for the Cougars. Williams made 22 saves. Watchung Hills is ranked ninth in the state.
The Cougars, under head coach Ashley Corino, won the Super Essex Conference-Liberty Division title this season.
