Columbia HS girls’ soccer team kicks up stellar 5-0-1 start

MAPLEWOOD/SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – The Columbia High School girls’ varsity soccer team has enjoyed a stellar start to the season.

The Cougars are unbeaten in their first six games.

The Cougars defeated Belleville, 3-2, Sept. 19, at Belleville in a Super Essex Conference-Liberty Division game. Ceci Munoz scored two goals and fellow sophomore forward Lia Holstein had the other goal.

CHS defeated Verona, 3-1, Sept. 21, at DeHart Park in SEC-Liberty Division action. Naomi Joseph, Isadora Egypt and Holstein each had a goal and junior goalie Hannah Williams made one save.

Holstein scored in overtime to lift the Cougars to a 1-0 win at Montclair Kimberley Academy on Sept. 23 in a SEC non-division game. Munoz had the assist and Williams made 11 saves.
Joseph scored in the second overtime to give the Cougars a 1-0 divisional win at West Orange on Monday, Sept. 26. Williams had six saves as the Cougars improved to a 5-0-1 record.
