Columbia HS girls’ soccer team falls in state tourney quarterfinals to finish respectable season

MAPLEWOOD, NJ – The Columbia High School varsity girls’ soccer team lost at top-seeded Westfield, 2-0, in the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2, Group 4 state tournament Nov. 2.

Senior goalkeeper Hannah Williams made six saves for ninth-seeded Columbia, which finished the season with a respectable 9-9-1 record. Westfield, which won a share of the Union County Tournament title with Scotch Plains-Fanwood ths season, improved to 18-0-1.

CHS defeated eighth-seeded Elizabeth, 3-1, in the first round Oct. 30 in Elizabeth. Freshman Katherine Meyer had two goals and senior Michelle Aguero had a goal for CHS. Junior Mimi Joseph had two assists, sophomore Grace Bratter had one assist and Williams made eight saves.
