Columbia HS girls’ track and field athletes give good efforts at state Meet of Champions

MAPLEWOOD – Columbia High School girls’ track and field athletes enjoyed fine performances at the state Meet of Champions at Central Regional HS in Bayville, June 8.

The 4×100-meter relay team earned the fifth-place medal in a time of 48.48 out of 40 teams. The team consisted of freshman Ciara French, junior Dahria Lewis, senior Cheyenne Trigg and freshman Lilian Williams.

Jasmine Keegan, a senior, earned the eighth-place medal in the discus event out of 40 competitors after tossing 121 feet-8 inches. The top eight finishers in each event earned medals.

In the triple jump, senior Jordan Fields took ninth at 37-4 and senior Sienna Farrell was 25th at 35-6 ¼ out of 40 competitors.

In the long jump, Farrell tied for 20th at 16-10 ½ and Fields was 27th at 16-7 ½ out of 35 competitors.

In the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash, French finished 19th in 12.74.

The Meet of Champions consisted of the top six finishers in each event, plus wild-card berths, from the Group Championships the previous weekend.
