MAPLEWOOD, NJ – The Columbia High School girls’ track and field team finished second overall at the Super Essex Conference-American Division Championship meet held Friday, May 11, at Schools Stadium in Newark.
The Cougars had 121 points among the six scoring teams. Montclair won the girls’ team title with 133 points.
The Cougars had five winners. Lilian Williams won the 100-meter dash in 12.61; Briana Reckling won the 400-meter dash in 57.84. Celine Egeonu won the high jump at 5 feet; Ayanna Henry won the triple jump at 37 feet-11 inches and Megan Mosteiro won the pole vault at 9-6. Catherine Jordan took second in both the 800-meters in 2:24.83 and the 400 hurdles in 1:04.08. Ciara French was second in the 100 dash in 12.64. In the 200 dash, Reckling was second in 25.32 Williams was fourth in 26.05 and French took sixth in 26.64. In the 100 hurdles, Henry was third in 15.33; French finished fifth in 15.44 and Kamille Sabio was sixth at 16.79. The 4×400 relay placed third in 4:06.25. In the discus, Shayla Keegan was fourth at 105 feet-1 inch and Briaille Carthens was fifth at 104-4. In the shot put, Keegan was sixth at 33-11. In the javelin, Hernann Angerville took fourth at 87-10 and Carthens placed fifth at 86-6.
On the boys’ side, Columbia finished fifth among the seven teams in the team standings. The 4×400 relay was first in 3:27.87 and Callum Howald won the pole vault at 13-0. Jonathan Salinardo was second in the 800 meters in 2:02.58. East Orange Campus won the boys’ team title for the third year in a row.
The Essex County Championships will be held May 18-19 at Woodman Field in Montclair.
