Columbia HS girls’ track and field team takes close second at County Relays

MAPLEWOOD, NJ – The Columbia HIgh School girls’ track and field team came very close to winning the Essex County Relays for a remarkable 10th year in a row.

The Cougars had 71 team points and finished second by just 1.33 points. West Orange won the girls’ team title with 72.33 points,

The Cougars took second in both the 4×100-meter shuttle hurdles relay in 1:07.40 and 4×200-meter relay in 1:43.98; and third in both the 4×400 in 3:59.80 and sprint medley relay in 4:21.75. The 4×800 took fifth in 10:18.34.

Kamille Sabio was first at 35 feet-4 1/2 inches and Ayanna Henry was fourth at 34-4 to combine to win the team triple jump. In the team pole vault, Megan Mosteiro took first at 9-6 and Angel Ezeokoli was seventh at 8-0 to combine for second place. Catherine Jordan and Celine Egeonu each tied for third at 5 feet to finish third in the team high jump.

In the team long jump, Ayanna Henry was fourth at 16-0.75 and Egeonu was eight at 15-8 to combine for second place. In the team discus, Shayla Keegan was third at 99-9 and Briaille Carthens was sixth at 95-11 to combine for third place. In the team shot put, Keegan was fifth at 34-5 1/2 and Carthens was 23rd to combine for sixth place.

The CHS boys’ team finished 12th in the team standings. Columbia took third in the 4×1,600-meter relay in 18:43.68 and sixth in the 4×200 in 1:32.50. Callum Howald won the pole vault at 14-0.
