MAPLEWOOD, NJ – The Columbia High School boys’ and girls’ indoor track and field teams enjoyed fine showings at the Essex County Championships held at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island, N.Y., Jan. 21,
The boys’ team finished fourth in the team standings with 26 points out of 32 schools. St. Benedict’s Prep won the team title with 105 points; East Orange was second with 49 points and Seton Hall Prep was third with 29 points. The girls’ team finished sixth in the girls’ team standings with 19 points out of 31 schools. Montclair won the girls’ team title with 76 points.
Callum Howald won the pole vault with a leap of 14 feet to lead the CHS boys’ team. The 4×400-meter relay team finished third in 3:36.59. Terrell Williams was fourth in the 55-meter hurdles in 7.87. Hamilton Peterson was fourth in the shot put at 40 feet-3.5 inches.William Schabacker was fifth in the 3,200-meter run in 10:15.23.
On the girls’ side, Sadie Tuohy took second in the 1,600 run in 5:37.67 and fourth in the 800 run in 2:25.52 to lead Columbia. In the 55-meter dash, Ruth Pastuer was fifth in 7.2; Lilian Williams was sixth in 7.52; and Madison Davis was eighth in 7.63. In the 3,200 run, Darcy Perlman was sixth in 12:38.15; Violet Gordon took eighth in 12:46.58 and Kirah Tianga finished ninth in 2:47.52.
