Columbia HS softball team falls in ECT as five-game win streak ends

MAPLEWOOD – The 12th-seeded Columbia High School varsity softball team lost at fifth-seeded Newark Academy, 4-0, in the first round of the Essex County Tournament on May 9 in Livingston. The loss ended the Cougars’ five-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-9.

In earlier action, Jordan Stephan fired a five-inning no-hitter with 13 strikeouts to lead the Cougars to a 16-0 win at Newark East Side on May 4. Stephan also went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBI. May Goldner hit a solo homer.

Bridget Sherman went 2-for-3 with a double, homer, four RBI and two runs and Maya Goldner went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Cougars to a 6-0 win at Colonia on May 5. Ally Krause also had a double and Stephan struck out seven in firing a five-hit shutout with one walk.
