Columbia HS softball team seeks good run in state sectional tournament

MAPLEWOOD – The Columbia High School varsity softball team hopes to make a good run in the state North Jersey Section 2, Group 4 tournament.

The Cougars, seeded 11th, will visit sixth-seeded Bayonne in the first round on May 23. The winner will face the winner between third-seeded Millburn and No. 14 seed Woodbridge in the quarterfinals on May 25. The semifinals are May 31 and the final is June 3.

Jordan Stephan fired a three-hitter with nine strikeouts and one walk and drove in Sophie Goldman for the lone run of the game in the 1-0 win at Westfield on May 16 in a non-conference game. CHS improved to a 10-10 record.
