Columbia HS softball team to visit Newark Academy in ECT

MAPLEWOOD and SOUTH ORANGE – The Columbia High School softball team, seeded 12th, will visit fifth-seeded Newark Academy in Livingston in the first round of the Essex County Tournament on May 7 at 2:30 p.m.

Jordan Stephan scattered seven hits and struck out seven in pitching a complete game to lead the Cougars to a 5-1 win over Verona in a Super Essex Conference-Liberty Division game at Meadowland Park field on April 27.

At the plate, Stephan went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Addie Nicholas went 1-for-3 with two RBI and Sophie Goldman went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run for the Cougars.

Stephen threw a six-inning two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and went 2-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and two runs in the 14-2 divisional win at Glen Ridge on April 29. Goldman went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs and Ally Krause went 2-for-4 with a double, homer, two RBI and two runs.
