Columbia HS swim teams give good efforts at SEC/Essex County Championships

MAPLEWOOD, NJ – The Columbia High School swim teams gave good efforts at the Super Essex Conference/Essex County Championships, Jan. 21, at New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark.

The girls’ team, which was the defending champion, finished sixth in the team standings among the 12 scoring teams. Newark Academy won the girls’ team title.The following are CHS results:

The 200-yard medley relay team took fifth place in 1:56.99, comprising Kat Dowlin, Maya Glenn, Gaby Hayek and Elly Ragone.

Dowlin took third place in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:00.47 and fifth place in the 100-yard freestyle in 55.33.

Maya Glenn finished in fifth place in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.46.

The 200-yard freestyle relay relay team of Dowlin, Glenn, Addie Wiener, and Ragone finished in second place in 1:43.62.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Hayek, Wiener, Ragone and Annabelle Jin-Hendel took sixth place in 3:59.01.

On the boys’ side, Columbia finished fifth in the team standings among the 13 scoring teams. Seton Hall Prep won the team title for the 22nd straight year.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Aidan Dwyer, Thaddeus Bernard, Issac Ortiz, and Declan Lynch finished in fifth place in 1:45.41.

Lynch took second  place in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:48.17 and third place in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:59.38.

Dwyer took third place i the 100-yard backstroke in 58.02.
