MAPLEWOOD – Columbia High School track and field/cross-country head coach Lisa Morgan recently was honored at the USATF New Jersey annual Awards Banquet at the Pines Manor in Edison on Jan. 16.

Morgan will step down as head coach at the end of the current indoor season and will take over as head coach at Bloomfield College this spring.

A 1985 CHS graduate, Morgan has led the CHS girls’ track and field team to numerous indoor and outdoor conference, county and state championships since taking over the helm for the 2007-08 indoor track season, helping to return the program to elite status after it went through years of mediocrity since legendary coach Len Klepack stepped down. Klepack coached Morgan at CHS.

The CHS boys’ and girls’ teams will gear up for the Essex County Individual Championship meet on Jan. 31 at the Jersey City Armory. Last month, the girls’ team won the team titles at the Super Essex Conference-American Division and Essex County Relays. The team has won the SEC-Division title each year since the conference’s inception in 2009 and won the Essex County Relays for the 13th straight year.
