MAPLEWOOD – The Columbia High School track and field teams had good showings at the Super Essex Conference-American Division Championships on May 14 at Schools Stadium in Newark.
The girls’ team finished second overall to Montclair in the girls’ team standings. CHS finished 10 points behind Montclair, 143-133. The boys’ team finished third overall with 81 points in the boys’ team standings behind Seton Hall Prep (114) and East Orange Campus (120).
Ciara French won the 100-meter dash in 12.67; Catherine Jordan won the high jump at 4 feet-10 inches; Jordan Fields won the long jump at 18-6; Sienna Farrell won the triple jump at 36-6 and Jasmine Keegan won the discus at 126-10 to lead the Cougars.
Brianna Reckling took second in the 400-meter run in 58.15; Jordan was third in the 800 in 2:21.45; French was third in the 100 hurdles in 16.29; Dahria Lewis was third in the long jump at 17-2 ½ and second in the triple jump at 35-6; Fields was third in the triple jump at 34-8; and Keegan was third in both the javelin at 89-11 and shot put at 37-8 ¼.
For the CHS boys’ team, Jared Pangallozzi was second in both the 1,600 run in 4:28.89 and 3,200 in 9:55.45; Roody Ovil won the long jump at 20-5, took second in the triple jump at 43-6 ½; and third in the high jump at 5-10; Coobee Darcelin was second in the high jump at 5-10 and fourth in the long jump at 20-1 ½ and Martin Battle was third in the long jump at 20-2.
The Cougars will gear up for the Essex County Championships, May 20-21, at Woodman Field in Montclair.
