Columbia HS wrestlers Cahil Love Jr. and Tyson Carroll post good runs in state tourney in A.C.

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — Columbia High School senior wrestler Cahil Love Jr. enjoyed a good run in the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

Love, seeded 24th in the 132-pound class, lost to No. 9 seed Xavier Pena of Bound Brook by a 7-4 decision in the first round. Love then regrouped and posted a 10-4 decision win over No. 25 Riley Simon of Point Pleasant Beach in the consolation first round.

The next day, Love was eliminated when he dropped a tough 7-6 decision to No. 23 Austin Jack of Jefferson in the consolation second round.

Tyson Carroll, a sophomore, was the other CHS qualifier. Carroll lost both his matches on March 5 to become eliminated. Carroll, seeded 25th in the 182-pound class, lost by a 16-1 technical fall to No. 8 Blake Clayton of St. John Vianney in the first round. Carroll then dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 24 Jamel Miles Benjamin in the consolation first round.

The state tournament consisted of the top four finishers in each weight class from the region tournaments. Carroll took third place, while Carroll took fourth place at the Region 3 tournament at WOHS on Feb. 26, 28-29.
