MAPLEWOOD (updated Tuesday July 12, 12:16 p.m.) – Maplewood fencer Amber White won a seventh-place medal in Cadet Women’s Saber at the USFA National Championships in Dallas, Tex.

White, a 15-year-old rising sophomore at Kent Place in Summit, also placed ninth in Juniors, and won a fifth-place medal in Div. II. White earned her “A16” rating, along with Junior and Cadet National points. Earning National points qualified her for both Junior and Cadet events for Junior Olympics in February.

White also was recognized in Dallas with making the 2016 Absolute Fencing Gear All-Academic First Team with a Certificate and Pin. This honor is given to USFA fencers meeting high academic standards. Only four “A” ratings were given out in Women’s Saber at Summer Nationals and two of those “A’s” came from Tim Morehouse Fencing Club. The “A” rating is the highest ranking given out to USFA fencers and is used to seed fencers in tournaments along with national points.

Summer Nationals is the largest fencing tournament in the world with nearly 4,000 competitors and 90 events. This year’s tournament ran from June 29 to July 8.
