SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — The Our Lady of Sorrows cross-country team hosted its 20th annual Fall Classic at Floods Hill in South Orange on Saturday, Oct. 5.
Never a big team, a series of injuries, maladies and misfortunes in the last two weeks have trimmed the OLS team from 13 to eight, including several of its top performers. Not surprisingly, the team score dropped from fourth place last year to near the bottom of the thirteen school field. However, five of the eight won medals.
OLS’ strongest performance was in the Girls 5th & 6th Grade event where Maudie Grace Lomuscio placed seventh after threatening the top five for most of the race. Isabel Sabnekar placed 15th. Shortly afterwards, Rafael Dunmeyer finished 10th in the Boys 5th & 6th with Alfonso Dunmeyer 11th. Finally, Halle Jules made great improvement over last year, placing 15th in the Girls 7th & 8th race.
Other competitors were Tyler Craig, who placed solidly in the Boys 7th & 8th, and Zoey Rooplal and Peter Dio.
In the Fun Run for Kindergarten, first and second graders, Anouk Lomuscio and Griffin McShane gave us a promising view of the future.
