PATERSON, NJ — Bouncing back from a 21-14 home loss to Phillipsburg on Friday, Oct. 14, the West Orange High School football team defeated Montclair 33-14 on Thursday, Oct. 10, at Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson in a Super Football Conference-Freedom Red Division game.
Senior Chris Barrino scored three touchdowns to lead the WOHS Mountaineers, who improved to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the division. West Orange is in first place in the division. Montclair fell to 2-5 overall and 2-1 in the division.
The Mountaineers will now face a red-hot East Orange Campus team on Saturday, Oct. 19, at Paul Robeson Stadium in East Orange. East Orange Campus has won three straight games to improve to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the SFC-Red Division. The EOC Jaguars posted back-to-back shutouts over Orange 27-0 on Saturday, Sept. 28, and Bloomfield 38-0 on Friday, Oct, 11, both on the road, before beating Paterson Eastside, 41-3, on Friday, Oct. 11.
EOC and Montclair are tied for second place in the division.
Ih the win over Montclair, junior Farad Green rushed for 140 yards on 23 carries and Barrino had 122 rushing yards on 10 carries and the three TDs to lead the Mountaineers.
WOHS senior quarterback Charlie LaMorte passed for 150 yards and two touchdowns on 13 of 21 attempts. Senior Iyan Gainer had four catches for 90 yards and a TD and senior Terrell Wilfong had two catches for 10 yards and a TD. Junior David Moore had four catches for 34 yards.
On defense, Barrino, a linebacker, had a team-high 10 tackles, along with an interception.
