WEST ORANGE, NJ – The West Orange United Soccer Club’s Cosmos and Gunners enjoyed impressive wins.
The Cosmos U8 boys continued their winning streak with 7-1 win over Ironbound SC in Newark. Coach Saul Figueroa’s boys played very fluid soccer. The team quickly controlled the game and took a commanding lead in the first few minutes. This made it easy for Coach Figueroa to rotate the squad at various spots and position all players to contribute to the win.
In the end, all units performed at their best. Defenders, midfielders and goalkeepers were outstanding. An impressive number of players (five) scored goals, and the Cosmos won over the Newark crowd with their individual skills and style of play.
The Gunners U9 girls opened the season last week with a commanding 7-1 victory over Northern Valley. They continued their season playing an undefeated United Montclair team this past weekend and battled to a 2-0 victory. The team as a whole played stellar defense and ended the first half with a 0-0 tie.
The Gunners came out starting the second half with an offensive mind and were playing on the Montclair side of the field. West Orange scored two quick goals in the second half by Ava Pannucci and Paige Topping to take the lead and hold it for the remainder of the game. It was a complete team effort for this young West Orange team. Their next game is Sunday at O’Connor field at 9 a.m.
