Defending champion Seton Hall Prep soccer team to face East Side in ECT championship game

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The Seton Hall Prep varsity soccer team will vie for its second straight Essex County Tournament title when the top-seeded Pirates face second-seeded Newark East Side in the championship game on Sunday, Oct. 30, at Montclair State University at 2 p.m. The game will follow the ECT girls’ title game between Livingston and Montclair at noon.

In the ECT semifinals doubleheader held at Millburn HS on Wednesday, Oct. 26, second-seeded East Side defeated sixth-seeded Millburn, 3-1, while the top-seeded Pirates defeated fourth-seeded Montclair, 4-0.

Mason Toye and Ryan Vazquez each had a goal; Nick Kriak, James Reardon and Brian Tevlin each had an assist, and Liam Bertrand made two saves for the Pirates, who won their ninth straight game and  improved to a 17-1-1 record.

East Side is 14-1-1, with the loss to Seton Hall Prep, 1-0, on Sept. 29. Toye had the goal in that game, with assists from Kriak and Vazquez.  East Side’s tie came against Montclair, 1-1.
