Jon Ned lifts Seton Hall Prep soccer team to 1-0 overtime win over crosstown rival West Orange HS

WEST ORANGE, NJ – Junior midfielder Jon Ned scored just 1:36 into the first overtime period to lead the Seton Hall Prep varsity soccer team to a thrilling 1-0 win over crosstown neighbor West Orange High School on Monday, Oct. 9, at WOHS in a battle of state-ranked teams.

Senior defenseman Adam Silva and his brother, senior midfielder Paul Silva, recorded the assists. The Pirates raised their overall record to 13-1-1 and 6-0 in the Super Essex Conference-American Division. The victory gave SHP its sixth SEC-American Division title in the nine years of the conference.

The WOHS Mountaineers had their five-game winning streak snapped and moved to a 7-2-3 overall record, 2-2-3 in the SEC-American Division.

Junior goalie Liam Bertrand had five saves to record the clean sheet for SHP. Senior goalie/co-captain Paul Schuler had nine saves for the Mountaineers.

In earlier action, junior Wes Rideau-Winds scored in the second half to lift the Mountaineers to a 1-0 win over Livingston on Oct. 4. Santiago DaSilva, a senior, had the assist and Shuler made four saves for WOHS, who are ranked No. 12 in the state by News 12 Varsity and No. 17 in the state by The Star-Ledger/NJ.com.
