Natalie Nevins leads West Orange HS girls’ soccer team in ECT win

WEST ORANGE, NJ – Freshman Natalie Nevins had two goals and three assists to lead the 10th-seeded West Orange High School girls’ varsity soccer team to a 6-0 win over 15th-seeded Newark East Side in the second preliminary round of the Essex County Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 15, at home.

The Mountaineers won their sixth straight game to improve to a 9-4-2 record under second-year head coach Sean Devore.

Kaitlyn Charles, Kaylese Gist, Kiara Machuca, and Giovanna Winning each had a goal. Samantha Herbert made two saves for WOHS, which was scheduled to face the winner between No. 7 Montclair Kimberley and No. 18 seed Cedar Grove in the first round on or by Oct. 19. The quarterfinals are Oct. 22 and the semifinals will be held at Belleville HS on Oct. 26.

In earlier action, Gist scored on an assist from Annabella Schuler in the 1-0 home win over Mount St. Dominic Academy on Oct. 8. Herbert made six saves.

Hannah Villasin scored on an assist from Nevins in overtime to give the Mountaineers a 1-0 win at Caldwell on Oct. 10. Herbert posted 11 saves.

Schuler scored two goals in the 6-1 win at Memorial of West New York on Oct. 13. Villasin, Mya Bembry, Gist, and Jillian McCauley each had a goal. Nevins collected three assists and Morgan Clark, Nyah Harper, and Reyna Rahaman each had an assist.
