Pirates lacrosse advances in state tournament

WEST ORANGE, NJ — On a hot Saturday afternoon, June 5, No. 2 seed Seton Hall Prep (12-2) defeated No. 7 seed Christian Brothers Academy 13-5 in the quarterfinal round of the NJSIAA Non-Public State Tournament at Brendan P. Tevlin Memorial Field in West Orange. 

The Pirates opened a 4-0 lead in the first quarter when senior Max Merklinger, junior Kevin Agnew, junior Quinn Spillett and junior Paul Korian scored goals. They increased their lead in the second quarter to 8-0 by half time when Agnew and Merklinger each scored one goal, and senior Jack Dunleavy added two goals. They scored once in the third quarter when Matt Wrede connected to make the score 9-2. In the final quarter, Agnew added two goals, while senior Quinn Moore and Dunleavy added goals. 

The Pirates will face Delbarton in the semifinal round.
