WEST ORANGE, NJ — The Seton Hall Prep wrestling team opened the 2021-22 season at two sites, splitting the team to do so.
Senior Joseph Sciarrone, at the 113-pound weight class; junior Stephen O’Neil Jr., at 157; and sophomore Logan Brzozowski,106, competed at the Beast of the East at the University of Delaware’s Bob Carpenter Center on Saturday, Dec. 18. The tournament continued on Sunday, Dec. 19, which was past the press deadline.
The rest of the team competed at the Morris Knolls Tournament at Morris Knolls High School in Rockaway.
In the varsity event at Morris Knolls, the Pirates finished in seventh place with 58 points. Sophomore Carlo Vanvolkenburgh finished in second place at 120. Freshman Cody Aniche-Farrell finished in third place at 138, and sophomore Jack Tierney also finished in third place at 285. Fourth-place finishers included freshman Gregory Garcia at 126 and sophomore Evan Surmay at 165.
In the junior varsity portion of the Morris Knolls tournament, the Pirates finished in third place with 145.5 points. Finishing in first place were freshman Dylan Oakes at 106, junior Jack Monti at 150 and sophomore Andrew Montoya Jr. at 285. The second-place finishers were sophomore William Ligotti at 106, freshman Lucas Campos at 113 and sophomore Aaron O’Brien at 165.
