Seton Hall Prep baseball team falls to Delbarton in Non-Public ‘A’ North final to conclude fine 24-5 season

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The Seton Hall Prep varsity baseball team completed its season on Tuesday, June 5, in Morris County with a an 8-0 loss to second-seeded Delbarton in the NJSIAA Non-Public “A” North Jersey state tournament. The Pirates, who were the No. 4 seed, finished the season with a stellar 24-5 record.

Delbarton scored an unearned run in the first inning. Seton Hall had five base runners. Senior Brian Kelly walked in the second inning; senior Will Nomura walked in the third inning; junior Nick Maldonado doubled to the right-field wall in the fourth inning; senior Ryan Hebert had an infield single down the third-base line in the fifth inning; and Maldonado was hit by a pitch in the sixth inning.

Maldonado (5-3) was the losing pitcher, allowing eight runs, three earned, on six hits with six strikeouts and one walk in 5 1/3 innings, while senior David Festa pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed one hit.

NOTES: Junior Tyler Kaufman and Maldonado represented SHP in the Quad-County All-Star Game at Kean University in Union on June 10.

Ryan Sheppard and Steven Sgaramella will represent the Pirates in the NJSIAA Scholastic Baseball Coaches Senior All Star Game at Diamond Nation in Flemington on June 12.

SHP head coach Mike Sheppard Jr. completed his 33rd as a high school coach and his 32nd year as the head coach of SHP. His current overall record is 768-201-4 (.791).
