WEST ORANGE, NJ — The Seton Hall Prep basketball team opened the 2021-22 season by traveling to West Caldwell on Friday, Dec. 17 to take on Caldwell High School. They defeated the Chiefs, 59-47.
The Pirates broke open an 11-11 tie in the second quarter, outscoring Caldwell 18-8 to take a 27-19 lead into halftime. The Pirates were led in the second quarter by senior guards Gavin Kreitz with 5 points, Myles Thomason with 4 points, and junior forward Jackson Bleecker with 3 points.
They extended their lead to 45-33 after three quarters with junior forward Shawn Lyght scoring 6 points, Kreitz with 4 points and senior guard Nick Dunneman with 4 points.
For the game, Kreitz led all Pirate scorers with 13 points; Dunneman had 12 points and five rebounds; Bleecker had 12 points and five rebounds; Lyght scored 10 points with eight rebounds; and Thomason filled up the box score with 8 points, four rebounds, six assists and three steals.
On Sunday, Dec. 19, the Pirates traveled to the Thomas G. Dunn Center at Elizabeth High School to take on Don Bosco Prep at The Hoop Group Tip-Off Showcase. Seton Hall lost 77-43. Thomason led the scoring with 10 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals, while Kreitz scored 9 points and Phillips pulled down 8 rebounds to go along with scoring 5 points. Bleecker scored 6 points.
