Seton Hall Prep basketball team enjoys 3-0 start to season

WEST ORANGE – The Seton Hall Prep varsity basketball team opened the season with wins over Newark Tech,  Columbia and Delbarton to improve to a 3-0 record.

Senior guard T.J.Gibbs had 17 points, five rebounds and five assists and junior forward Treyvon Bennett had 12 points, nine rebounds and three steals in the 69-48 win at Newark Tech on Friday, Dec. 18, in the season opener. Senior guard Stephen Ferraro had 11 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals; and junior guard Austin Williams had nine points and four rebounds for SHP.

Williams had 12 points and was named MVP of the game to lead the Pirates to a 58-34 win over Columbia in the Hoop Group Tip Off Showcase at the George R. Newman Rec Center on the campus of Caldwell University in Caldwell on Saturday, Dec. 19. The Pirates jumped out to a 25-2 lead after the first quarter, led by Ferraro’s eight points; Williams’ seven points and senior forward Zach Keller’s four points. Gibbs finished with 12 points, four assists and five steals; Ferraro finished with eight points and four steals and Keller ended with seven points.

Gibbs had 23 points, four rebounds, and seven assists; senior guard J.J. Jenkins had 13 points, three assists and three steals; and Bennett added 11 points in the 90-54 win over Delbarton in the home opener on Monday, Dec. 21.

SHP will compete in the 35th Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Dec. 26-27, 30-31.
