Seton Hall Prep basketball team holds off West Orange HS, 52-51

WEST ORANGE, NJ – In a wild game Tuesday, Jan. 15, the Seton Hall Prep basketball team edged West Orange High School, 52-51. Seton Hall led 16-8 after the first quarter, and 27-21 at halftime. West Orange rallied and led 36-35 after three quarters.

With Seton Hall leading 47-46, Reynard Barnes hit a layup with 1:33 left to give West Orange a 48-47 lead. Colin Flaherty hit a three-point field goal from the right corner on a pass from Ashton Miller with :16 left to give Seton Hall a 50-48 lead.

Godly Marc made one free throw with :11.5 left to cut the Pirates’ lead to 50-49. Mario Bollo extended the Seton Hall lead to 52-49 when he went 2-for-2 from the foul line with :05.1. Goddy Marc hit two free throws with :00.8 to make the final 52-51.

Ismail Taylor scored 12 points while Goddy Marc scored nine points to lead WOHS.

Miller scored 19 points with four assists and four steals;  and Geordan Walker scored 14 points with eight rebounds to lead SHP.

Flaherty said after the game, “It felt pretty good to make that shot. Ashton fed me a great pass while Mario set a great screen.”

WOHS fell to Payne Tech, 66-52, Jan. 17. Fresco had 16 points; Taylor posted nine points and four rebounds; Atwell scored eight points with three rebounds; Goddy Marc had seven points, three rebounds and three assists; Godly Marc had six points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals; Barnes had two points, 12 rebounds and two blocks; and Aquam Robinson and Gustav Hall each had two points. WOHS fell to 5-6.
