Seton Hall Prep basketball team improves to 17-0; gains No. 1 seed in ECT

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The Seton Hall Prep basketball team won two games this past week to raise its season record to 17-0 and 11-0 in the Super Essex Conference-American Division.

On Monday, Jan. 29, the Pirates hosted Columbia at Tracey Gymnasium and defeated them, 72-61.

SHP trailed 27-22 at halftime, but outscored Columbia, 25-12, on the strength of Ashton Miller’s eight points and Alex Imegwu’s seven points during the quarter. For the game, Jabri Abdur-Rahim scored 24 points with 10 rebounds, six assists, and three blocks; Imegwu finished with 17 points and six rebounds; and Miller finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and three steals.

On Thursday, Feb. 1, the Pirates traveled to Montclair and defeated them, 65-51.

Abdur-Rahim scored 20 points in the first half and finished with a game-high 24 points with 11 rebounds and four blocks.

Miller had 13 points with six rebounds, seven assists and five steals, Imegwu scored 10 points while Jesse Reid III scored 10 points with five assists.

This week, SHP will play host to East Side in their final SEC-American Division game on Tuesday, Feb. 6, and host Rutgers Prep on Thursday, Feb. 9.

The Pirates are the No. 1 seed in the 72nd Essex County Tournament. They will host a first round game on Saturday, Feb. 10, against the winner of No. 16 University vs. No. 17 Orange at 2 p.m.
