Seton Hall Prep basketball team rallies past Union to improve to 7-0

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The Seton Hall Prep varsity basketball team raised its record to 7-0 with a 64-58 come-from-behind win over Union at The New Year’s Tip-Off Union County vs. Essex County at Tarnoff Gymnasium on the campus of West Orange HS.

SHP was leading 17-9 after the first quarter behind the scoring of junior guard Ashton Miller (seven points) and senior forward Alex Imegwu (six points). They fell behind 26-25 at halftime after Marvellous Akingbala sank a three-pointer as the second quarter ended. DeAndrae McFarlane led Union with seven points in the second quarter.

In the third quarter, Union increased the lead to 41-37 as McFarlane led Union with six points and Val Julian scored five points. Sophomore guard Jabri Abdur-Rahim scored seven points and Imegwu scored five points for SHP in the third quarter. As the fourth quarter started, junior guard Geordan Walker hit a three pointer and Jesse Reid III hit a layup-and-one to give the Pirates a 43-41 lead that they would never give up. They outscored Union, 27-17, in the fourth quarter. Miller had 10 points, Reid scored six points, and Abdur-Rahim scored five points.

For the game, Abdur-Rahim scored 19 points and added seven rebounds, Miller finished with 17 points and five assists, and Imegwu had 13 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Reid chipped in with six points and pulled down five rebounds and dished out five assists while Walker scored six points and grabbed five rebounds. For Union, DeAndrae McFarlane scored 21 points and Val Julien scored 11 points.
