Seton Hall Prep basketball team tops St. Joseph of Montvale to reach Non-Public ‘A’ North State semifinals

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The top-seeded Seton Hall Prep varsity basketball team improved its record to 24-2 on the season as the Pirates defeated No. 8 seed St. Joseph of Montvale, 84-62, in the quarterfinal round of the NJSIAA Non-Public “A” North State Tournament at Frank J. Tracey Gymnasium at SHP on Saturday, March 3.

SHP will host No. 4 seed St. Peter’s Prep of Jersey City on Monday night, March 5, at 7 p.m.

Alex Imegwu led SHP with 22 points and seven rebounds; Ashton Miller scored 21 points and had five rebounds, seven assists and nine steals; and Jesse Reid III scored 15 points with 3 assists.

After the game, Imegwu said, “I got off to a slow start but my team’s energy got me going in the second quarter (scored 12 points.) and the rest of the game.”

Miller added, “I was very happy we got off to a hot start. If gave us a lot of confidence for the rest of the game.”

Head Coach Kevin Williams said about the team’s performance, “We have been able to ride the hot hand all season. We were able to run our man offense a little better and played some pretty good defense and shut down their top player. We had fresh legs today because we had eight days off after our Newark Tech game.”
